BEST PRACTICES

Frame the game

Using a smartphone or external camera, a staff member can broadcast a live video stream from within the GameChanger app.

  • Mount a phone to the outside of the backstop fence using a mounting kit. It will keep your phone firmly positioned.
  • The optimal position will cover third and first base in the field of view to capture all the action.
  • Plug the phone into an external battery pack while it’s recording to eliminate the risk of your phone dying.
  • Use a smartphone cover to protect your phone from the sun and inclement weather.
  • Put your phone into 'do not disturb' mode to prevent the live stream from pausing when you receive a phone call.
  • Mount your phone onto a tripod in a position that will cover as much of the court as possible.
  • Attach a super wide angle lens to your smartphone to capture more of the court from a closer distance.

FAQ

Questions?

If you cannot find the answers you are looking for, please contact us by visiting our customer support website or email our support team directly at teammanager@gc.com.

Who can live stream the game from within GameChanger?

GameChanger now allows confirmed Family and Players to stream games in all sports.

If you'd prefer to only give Staff members the ability to stream for your team, toggle the "Only Staff" option from the "Streaming Permissions" screen.

Who can watch the live streamed games?

The staff member streaming the game can choose between allowing only family members and players (for teams whose age group allows for players to have their own account) to see the live stream, or allowing family members, players, and team fans to see the live stream.

How much does it cost?

It's free for staff members to stream, watch, and access the video archives. Confirmed members and fans can watch the live stream for free, but advanced features like accessing the video archives, the box score, play-by-play and the plays announcer require a subscription.

Do I need a strong internet connection to live stream a game?

We recommend that you are connected to the internet via a stable WiFi connection. You can also use cellular data to stream, but please note that this may consume multiple GB of data. To avoid this, you may want to consider using a mobile hotspot.

How much will live streaming video drain my smartphone battery?

Streaming is a battery intensive operation for any phone. Your battery is going to drain. We recommend fully charging your phone prior to live streaming, and if possible, plugging your phone into an external battery.

What happens if I leave the app while streaming?

If you put the app in the background for a short period of time (30 seconds or so) then the stream will pause for all viewers. Viewers will receive a message saying that the stream is paused. Once you return to the app you will be able to resume streaming. Please note that the stream will end if you leave the app for longer than this period of time.

What happens if I lose my cellular/WiFi connection while streaming a game?

If you lose your connection while streaming, the stream will end for viewers. They will get a message saying that the stream has been ended. You will be able to restart streaming once you have a strong enough connection.

What is the best way to stream a game?

We recommend that you are connected to the internet via a stable WiFi connection. You can also use cellular data to stream, but please note that this may consume multiple GB of data. To avoid this, you may want to consider using a mobile hotspot.

Can I provide score updates to the Live Video scoreboard for sports other than Baseball, Softball, and Basketball?

If you are scoring a soccer, football, field hockey, hockey, lacrosse, rugby (union) or water polo game, viewers will see the GameStream scoreboard with the live video feed.
